KIngston towards Bigbury - Saturday 30th July 2011

We thought we would walk towards Bigbury from Kingston this time.  The weather was hot and we haven't been on a long challenging walk for some time, so we were out of condition for the steep climbs up the cliffs!

We climbed up another very steep cliff to get a view of Bigbury bay.  We were puffed by then and decided we would walk inland to Ringwell from here.

We will walk from Challaborough to Bigbury another time!  The hot weather does make a difference to energy levels!  Anyway, Dave's pedometer recorded 11000 so that's over 5 miles we think!

Mid Devon Show, Tiverton - Saturday 23rd July 2011

The show at Tiverton was heaving!  One stall holder told us there were 18,000 visitors.  The weather was good, and lots to see

Cadover Bridge - Sunday 17th July 2011

The weather has been changable, so between showers and in them, we decided to walk through the woods from Cadover Bridge to Shaugh Prior.

On our return we had to have an ice cream ( in the car as the heavens opened) as it is summer!!!

Plymbridge woods - Friday 8th July 2011

Dave, Bec, Bob and 1 had a quick walk down to Plymbridge after tea.

We had a good look through the National Trust telescopes at the Peregrine Falcon.

2 Falcons can be seen through the telescope.

On the way back to the car, we read a notice that subject to planning permission, the National Trust intend to build a cafe in the field.  as the railway enthusiasts are extending the Plym Valley railway this would be a good move, we think.

Modbury - Devon Vintage Car Club am, and walk pm Saturday 2nd July 2011

Dave drove me to the display of classic cars in Modbury in his kit car.  The field was full when we arrived, but they managed to make room for us.  The event was to publicise a Lands End to John O'Groats drive by Mike and Ann Oakins in a Liege car based on a robin reliant in aid of St Luke's Hospice on 10th July.

As the display was close to a public footpath, we returned in the afternoon, to follow a walk from the Plym Ramblers Book 3.  The walk starts from Runaway Lane where 2000 defending royalists ran away from the 8000 parliamentarians in 1643.

 We could not follow the directions and ended up having to walk back into Modbury on the main road!!

However, as this was the first walk we had done for a month, and it was very hot, so we were satisfied with a short one!!

  Modbury is the first town to ban plastic bags.

Looking at the map again, I can see where we went wrong, but how we did is another matter!!  Bob was tired after this 3 mile walk!!

Dartmoor Classic bike ride - Newton Abbot to Tavistock and back

We got to Princetown to witness the arrival of the first riders from Newton Abbot.  A hot day, so not ideal.
Rich completed the 100 miles in 7 hours 30 minutes!!  Well done!!!
