41 days to go, and the first day of 2011. After a lovely evening at Kitley House Hotel, seeing the New Year in, what is better than blowing away the cobwebs and taking on a 7 mile walk??? We followed the walk in the new Plym Ramblers book, Walk1.
Parking opposite the Rose & Crown, we followed the Erme Plym Trail
The starting point of the walk |
You can see for miles |
An ancient walkway called Devon Lane |
We frequently disturbed pheasants who flew off like small helicopters! |
Beside the Yealm |
Walking beside the Yealm and through a very muddy path in the wood in the distance, emerging beside Lotherton Bridge
Lotherton Bridge |
Again, the route followed a lane towards an old Gate House farm at Winsor ( 15th Century)
The power station looms large in the distance |
A dog unfriendly stile! |
Back along the fields the other side of the river, and crossing the footbridge. More dog unfriendly stiles!!
Bob was brave enough to cross this bridge on his own |
A stone stile. Can I do this one on my own now??? |
Across fields and down towards civilisation again, beside the river and through a factory yard where a house had these semi circular plasterworks on its gate:
The Toll House |
Beside the River Yealm |
A circuit of 7 miles, only going wrong once. The weather was not too cold, all signs of snow have gone, leaving muddy paths. Took us 3 1/2 hours with no stopping. Part of the route was on busy roads and some stiles were difficult for dogs.
